Dasebre is a stage play on African rituals and games, written by a Ghanaian playwright, Asiedu Yirenkyi.
The play revolves around the character Dasebre who proclaims himself king of the land of Safrotwe in the state of Takyiman, after defeating all candidates for the vacant stool of the State. But his proclamation was rejected by the queen mother of the State.
The play addresses sensitive contemporary Ghanaian issues such as: corruption in leadership hindering development, power struggle leading to loss of lives and destruction of peace and stability, hatred and vengeance affecting the health of the community, and among many others.
Also, Dasebre parades on stage a cast of characters of varied moral and social status: indeed, they represent the entire society.
This stage production promises to be fascinating and educative. The production which is scheduled to show as detailed below is directed by Mr. Daniel Dazam, a final year directing student of the Department of Theatre Arts, University of Education, Winneba.
